Promoting experiential learning within a consolidated company.
1992. Beginnings
• After obtaining my degree in Work and Organizational Psychology I immediately found a job in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
• I carried on my professional career in Montaner & Asociados, first as a consultant and then as Manager in charge of Development and Training.
• I realized all consultants possessed an MBA and had multinational background experience.
1998. The Pub
• On the cusp of 30 I managed to save 2 million pesetas to pay for an MBA in one of the most prestigious business schools in Barcelona.
• It was meant to be a 2-year part-time study while working as an Outdoor Training Manager for Yeti Club.
• A month before starting my MBA I invested the money in setting up an Irish pub with a group of my closest friends.
2000. Learning
• I ended up spending those same 2 years learning everything I needed to carry out a profitable business: marketing, sales, finances, customer service…
• The knowledge was the same that was taught in the MBA, but DEFINITELY more fun.
• That’s why I always say that “almost all I have learned it has been inside a pub”
2002 Outputs
• My first son was born, I set up my company, I wrote my first book…and I may have planted my first tree (though not completely sure of it).
• I believe in the power of experiences as a way of learning. Same as Hobbes “Primun vivere, deinde phiosophari”: First one must live, then one may philosophize.
• Since 2002 Viventia has helped shape and flourish people through experiences.
.2008-2012 Failures
• “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently”, Henry Ford.
• Well, I must have been more intelligent than I thought because I went for the internationalization of my company just as the worst economic crisis of the last 20 years was taken place.
• And of course, I learnt a lot.
From 2016.
Consolidation
• We have been able to consolidate Viventia, founded the NGO “Educacció” and managed to create “D`Alma Business Partners” a Consultancy that is focused on accompanying the companies of the future.
• After 3 books, more than 30 published articles, 25.000 students, 200 companies, 11 countries and 3 children…
• I still feel the same excitement as I did the first day. I keep asking myself… how can I stir things up to produce changes and improvements in the minds of those who surround me?
